I founded Menottees (me'not-tees) upon the idea that I could have more fun while simultaneously honoring the memory of my grandfather Dr. Amel Menotti. He was a great man who spread joy and love wherever he went. I'm not sure if this was due to his humble beginnings, but I always knew him as a loving grandfather. Always smiling, and always being kind to those around him. As Maya Angelou said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel," and well, it's the truth.
My grandfather was also a brilliant visionary who helped invent the penicillin program after World War II. When he arrived at Bristol Laboratories, the research team consisted of one person, him. When he retired, there were five hundred. He lived life on his own terms following his passion for science and helping others to create a better world.
Menottees is all of those beautiful moments that I had with him. The joy, the love, the laughter. I want every design to invoke those feelings because that's the stuff that lasts.
